The antagonists in Bollywood rapes or try to rape a full-blossomed damsel in a movie. The hero emerges from thin air – as if a packet of energy that moves with a speed of light and turns into physical self after the shriek - ‘help’, comes within his earshot. Watching intensely, audience becomes hysterical with joy – clapping and jeering, as if he has saved someone who is one among the audience. The Indian audience has a penchant for relating themselves with the onscreen characters.

Many socially pro-active stars – who take out candle-light processions on issues ranging from human-rights violations to gang-rape of minors, are mum on the exploding topic of rape committed by Bollywood celebs.

Yes, we are discussing about those film personalities who have been charged with outraging the dignity of women. The charges against some of them have been proved, while others found to be falsely implicated or framed. Still, there are others who are waiting for a judgment.

The following B-town celebs have been charged with rape and sexual harassments:.

Ankit Tiwari

In the first flush of youth and merely in his mid-twenties - playback singer Ankit Tiwari - who mesmerized people with his melodious track, ‘Sunn raha hai na’ from Aashiqui 2, was held by the city police for raping a 28-year-old advertising professional on May 8, 2014.  In her complaint to the police, she said, Tiwari raped her on multiple occasions since July 2013, under the pretext of getting married.

Booked under several CrPC Acts, Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage), and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the musical legend was even remanded to police custody.

2/5: Inder Kumar

Salman Khan’s reel-life brother in ‘Wanted’ - Inder Kumar too is enmeshed in controversy after a 23-year-old diva – a struggling actor and a model, accused him of rape and assault. According to her, the actor lured her of lead roles in Bollywood films, and cajoled her for ‘live-in’ relationship. Kumar, allegedly, confined her at his Versova flat and sexually assaulted for two days. “Not only he raped me thrice in a month but also tortured me”, she revealed. The police reported to have found burn marks on her neck and shoulder, along with bite wounds and knife injuries.

Contesting the charge, Kumar said that it was consensual relationship, and there was no abuse involved. The medical report, though, has confirmed the allegations.

Kumar was held and has been booked under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 324 (causing grievous hurt), 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

3/5: Subhash Kapoor


A comical movie director - Subhash Kapoor, was also in the limelight for the wrong reason. The ‘Jolly LLB’ director was accused of molesting a scribe-turned-actress Geeta Tyagi.

The incident occurred at Geeta’s residence on May 28, 2012. When asked, why didn’t she complain earlier, she said that there was ‘lack of evidence’, then.

Moreover, his wife Dimple, allegedly, implored her to kill the controversy, saying that besides ruining their lives, this would also put their son’s career in jeopardy.

In a sort of sting operation, she along with her boyfriend, Atul Sabharwal, recorded a video where Kapoor is seen admitting to his guilt in front of his wife. Geeta made it viral on social media; captioned it: “Subhash Kapoor’s True Face”.

She said, this would act as a deterrent for others and save innocent girls from falling prey to similar situations. 

4/5: Dibakar Banerjee


Another director acclaimed for his – ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ and ‘Love Sex Aur Dhokha’, Dibakar Banerjee faced similar molestation charges from none other than his former friend and actress Payal Rohatgi.

Calling him her ‘mentor’, she said that once he dropped by her house during the odd-hours said that she had gained weight. Initially she took the comment lightly, but when he asked her to lift her shirt and show him her tummy, she resisted. But he did not relent.

She bore the brunt after her refusal to accept his sexual-favor. Dibakar dropped her from his movie, Shanghai, for which she had auditioned and also received a ‘positive comments’.  

The director came out with his own set of narratives, "I spoke professionally, saying that she would need to shed weight if she wanted the role. There was no demand from anyone that she lift her top.”

However, the controversy soon faded away and both went their separate ways.

The Youth Magazine

Dapper Shiney Ahuja hogs the lime-light for raping his maid in 2009, sending shockwaves across the film industry. He was put behind bar after his young maid accused him of raping her. She also alleged that Ahuja even tortured him after keeping her in confinement. The medical reports confirmed the act.

The maid even said that actor had kept her confined in his flat for nearly two hours, and had even threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the incident. Though Ahuja initially denied the crime, he later confessed to it. In 2011, the actor was convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment. But later, he was released on bail.
