Karan-Arjun’s mom soon to hit big screen!

Rakhi Gulzar – the heartthrob of youth during seventies and early eighties, will soon rock the silver screen. She was last seen in ‘Shubho Mahurat’ in 2003.

The actress, after fifteen-year sabbatical, will once again appear on the big screen with “Nirvaan” directed by Gautam Haldar. It’s a Hindi remake of the original Bengali movie titled, “Mukti”.

Considered one of the finest actors, Rakhi essayed memorable roles in Kabhie-Kabhie, Sharmeeli, Jivan Mrityu, Daag – to name a few.

In films like Jurmana, her name is credited ahead of the male protagonist in the credits of the movie. During those days she was at the peak of her career as heroine. She surprised all and sundry by agreeing to essay robust characters as sister-in-law to Rajesh Khanna in Aanchal (1980), which was followed by Shashi Kapoor in Shaan (1980) where she played sis-in-law to Shashi, mother to Amitabh in Shakti (1982), sister-in-law to Mithun Chakraborty in Dhuan and mother to Rishi Kapoor in Yeh Vaada Raha (1982).

Rakhi received several offers recently but she turned them down as none enticed her. But when she heard that  Mukti is based on Moti Nandi’s classic  - ‘Bijolibalaar Mukti’, she immediately agreed to do it. Here, she will play a septuagenarian Brahmin widow who fights for her rights. During her struggle, she has to face several communal and sectarian impediments.
